So I hope you're not all sick of my recipe pages yet cos I have a few more to go!

This layout I made for this week's challenge at Mo's DP2 which is

"Anything Goes and /or Sketch

Ive colored all these with Prismas and Lyras on kraft cardstock and the papers are DCWV.

These two kids go just perfect for a lemonade spread, don't you think?

Lemonade Recipe:

3/4 -1 cup sugar

1 cup lemon juice (fresh)

2 cups water

3-4 cups ice water

Heat first three ingredients in a saucepan til sugar is completely dissolved.

Add cold water to sugar syrup (to taste).

Refrigerate for 30-40 minutes.

Just a quick little post for you today. I'm featuring the work of Marianne D today, she does real funky characters. I think of them as "Lili Of The Valley with attitude" lol

I was playing with my pastel pencils on cream colored pastel paper and have to say that I prefer a darker color background. This didn't come out near like I envisioned but oh well, live and learn. Whilever I have to buy "muli-colored" packs of pastel paper I just have to suck it up and color on all shades, it would be too expensive to only use the sheets I like.

Ive got a simple card to share with you today. Sometimes you need a card suitable for "all occasions" and this stamp/ design fits the bill. I kept decorations to a minimum and just let the image be the focus. (nothing new there!) The 6x6 paper packs I'm using work so well in tying it all together. Love my 6x6s!!

*A note on pastel pencils:

Although they can be used on kraft and other papers they really do work their magic best on "Pastel Paper". With "normal" paper the pigment almost sits on top and you have to be so careful you don't just brush it all off with a careless movement. But with "proper" pastel paper the color settles into the paper fibers like butter into a biscuit. So creamy and blendable and nice.

You can find pastel paper at most arts and craft stores for about $7 for 25 sheets. I'm sure there's cheaper and more expensive options out there but this is what I use.

Hi All!

Well I'm back and lo and behold I am using white paper!! I know, shock of shocks and horror of horrors!

Well its good to shake things up a bit and I thought that this image lent itself to brightness which sometimes only white can achieve. Anyway, I survived it. lol

I'm quite into making these "quilted scenes" right now. I just free-cut my hills and sewed them down. Nothing complicated. But I do like the effect. :)

Well I was in a bit of a quandary when I made this recipe card. I needed a pie recipe but I'm one of those pie makers that never measure. I just throw it all together. Stacey was over the house crafting with me and she started telling me about an apple pie recipe she really enjoys using frozen apple juice instead of sugar. A Day For Daisies

Hi Guys!

Well I just found a couple of cards that were nearly lost/deleted. I had forgotten about them and somehow they ended up in my "recycle bin" which would have been 'never to be seen again' for at least one of them as I had already sent it to someone so couldn't retake the picture. But all's well that ends well and here they are.

These were cards I created 'just for fun' from my older stash of papers. They're quite "wintery" so I thought Id better publish them before Spring comes. However, Spring isn't feeling too imminent at the moment so I'm probably safe. lol

So how is everyone?

I am just in love with my new 6x6 paper packs, is this not a gorgeous set? And the funny thing is, its not a set but these small packs coordinate so well together. Love em Love em.

Of course, I had to use my lyras and prismas as usual, you know something? I seriously think I've lost the ability to color on white. At any rate it sends me in a panic so I'm not doing much of it right now. But like they say,"if its not broke don't fix it " so I guess there's no use getting too worked up about it....Ive got plenty of kraft.:)

Pumpkin Spice Hop and a Tutorial

Hi Guys!

Well its time to HOP TO IT!

That's right, its a new hop at Pumpkin Spice and if you came to me from lovely Lezlye you're right on track! If you get lost, head on back to Pumpkin Spice.

From here you're going to hop to sweet June's blog but before you go running off you have to look at my card, its part of business. lol

As you can see I made a spinner easel card for the hop and if you've never done one before I made a step by step tutorial which you can find below. I apologize in advance for the picture heavy post!

OK! Tutorial time!

~Spinner Easel~

Below you have the basic things you'll need:

Scoring board

paper pack

scortape or other strong adhesive

1 12x12 cardstock (which you'll cut into the following sizes)

(1) 4x8 cardstock, scored at 2" and 4" when laid landscape down

(2) 4"x5" cardstock

(2) scalloped circles to frame your image and one larger scallop ring (explained later) to frame your window.

Spellbinder's Plain circle dies in 2" and 3"

Spellbinder's Scalloped Circle dies in 21/4" 31/4"

dental floss

To start with, crease your scored lines on your long panel.

Now we're going to put all the pieces to one side and work on our spinning panel.

So grab your (2) 4"x5" cardstock pieces and stack them together.

Run your 3"inch plain circle die through your die cutting machine with the circle placed in the upper half of the rectangle. (run it through 5 or 6 times to make sure it has cut through both layers of cardstock.)

Now both panels will line up perfectly. This is important.

Next cut your image out using your 2" plain circle die and then find some scrap cardstock and also cut out two frames for your image using your 2 1/4 inch scalloped die.

Stick your image onto one frame (below)

Now lay your second frame down and place a strip of dental floss across it. (top to bottom)

Fasten securely with scortape.

Peel paper off tape. Lay image onto base. (make sure you line up your scallops)

Place image into "window" with floss laying out across base.

This is the bottom layer.

Now you can lay the top layer over the base to see how it will look.

Don't secure the top layer yet, we still have more to do.

OK, now get a sheet of decorative paper. I like to have margin for error so get one that's a good size and cut out a circle in the same size as your window. (3")

See how my decorative paper is larger than my base?

Now line up your windows on the cardstock and your decorative paper and turn over.

Trace the cardstock onto the decorative paper and trim to size.

Two matching panels.

Lay your decorative panel over your top panel and affix.

See how it will look?

Now cut a scalloped ring as a frame for your window using your 3" plain circle and 31/4" scalloped circle.

Cut the scalloped circle first and then lay the plain circle die inside and run through your die cutting machine.

And also gather any paper pieces you might like to use to decorate your panel.

Glue your scalloped frame down and if you're going to do any sewing on your panel, now is the time to do it before you sandwich the two layers together. (so your seams wont be exposed)

Get out the trusty scortape and securely tape the two panels together.

OK, now onto the base.

Fold the base as seen, adhere scortape to the folded area seen below. (this is where you are going to stick down your decorative spinning panel.

Decorate the base however you like.

Now stick down your spinning panel and lay some chunky buttons (or something similar)

to anchor the easel.

There is a balance issue with the spinning easels, they're top heavy because they're taller than a traditional easel (allowing for the window) so you'll need to play around with the placement of the buttons to find a location that will hold the card in place.

That's it!

Hi Guys!

Well did you spot it? You were supposed to be on the lookout for the new stamp set Ive been working with by Precious Remembrance. Well this is the first card I've made using this awesome new set and I gotta say I love it. They stamp clean and perfect every time. LOve it Love it. LOve it.

OK! Back to the card!

I'm trying something a little new today. You know I have had about 35 CarbOthello pastel pencils for about a year now and never used them? To be honest, I was scared silly! They're kind of chalky and the tips are not so sharp so it freaked me out. But let me tell you. You're going to see a lot more of pastel work on my blog in the coming weeks cos I am having a blast!! These pastels are so luminescent, they're like the moon shining at night. And I just love em! And a little trick.... *pssssst* if you put your pastel pencils in the freezer overnight they sharpen like a dream with an electric sharpener. And I'm sure everyone uses them a little differently but I found that I had to reverse my color laying order. As in, instead of light to dark I layer dark to light, blending each layer with a finger or blending stump.

Hi Everyone!

So this week's challenge with the Kraft Journal is : So Romantic.

As some of you may know, I'm not really the romantic type of cardmaker so I did the best I could under the circumstances. lol

I love this image by ADFD, kind of art nouveau romantic. I colored her with my usual prismas and lyras on kraft. It's a bit of a quirky color combination, I'll admit it, but it felt right at the time and made sense.Now? Well, I'm trying not to think too hard on it. It is puzzling. lol.

Your Kindness Warms My Heart

Hi Guys!

Can you believe I actually made this card today and am posting it? Lately Ive been working about three weeks ahead so this seems so strange to me. And yet I feel so efficient cos its not cluttering up my drafts.

Anyway, I thought I'd better color up this little guy while it was still "winter" though we have seen precious little in the way of winter this year and no white stuff at all. Doesn't seem like winter without snow. But if I was in South Africa it would probably be 90 degrees and yet winter....strange..

Today is about 60 degrees and rainy. And thats another thing we haven't seen much of ~ rain . My poor ducks.:( But I'm not going to go on and on talking about the weather cos then you'd know I've been married to my British hubby an awwwwwwwful long time! lol

Back to the card!

hmmmmmmm..not sure. I think lace doilies should have a cup of tea and cookie on them, but it does add...something.

Hi Guys!

So do you feel any older now that we're in 2012? I don't. Well maybe a few days older. Practicing immaturity always helps. lol

So for today's Spotlight Wednesday at A Day For Daisies I am spotlighting two of Tammy's gorgeous Mother images. The first is a stamp called "Two Girls with Mom".

I went pretty clean and simple with it. Just thought it mirrored the serenity pictured here.

Well I have some awesome news!

This month, along with GDing for A Day For Daisies, I have the awesome privilege of joining the crew at the Kraft Journal for the month of January ! Isn't that sweet of them to let me crash their party?

Yay! This is going to be so much fun! Kraft paper and ADFD images, what a perfect mix!

So this week's challenge at the Kraft Journal is :

Your Favorite Colors

Since these are my "comfort crafting colors" I take them to be my favorite. :-)

My image is from A Day For Daisies and the papers are part of a gorgeous pack by October Afternoon, called "Modern Homemaker". I found it at Hobby Lobby but I'm sure you can buy it online, too. They're just perfect for this country kitchen style page.

The twine can be found here at the Kraft Outlet and the ribbon is from Sew Sweet.

And oh! This pie is to die for! Ok, that would rather defeat the purpose but you know what I mean. :)

Trust me, you'll love it!

I generally make my own crust (see recipe below) but I've also bought Gluten Free pie shells before, made with rice flour (when my sister is pogging with me) and its come out just fine.

Baking Day

Well to hop off the new term at Pumpkin Spice we are having a HOP!

I'm not sure how I would define "my style" (suggestions are welcome) but I guess you could say there's always (or very likely) certain elements you'll find in my projects.

You gotta love quiche. The variations are endless!

And baked beans below:

Pssst) The first time I made my hubby Boston Baked Beans he just about threw up. It totally was NOT what he was expecting. Being English, he was used to tomato based beans, not sweet molasses beans. lol Over the last 18 years he's got a bit more used to them but I also have toned down the sugar a wee bit. Add more onions, herbs etc.

Ideally (if you're not worried about a stroke or anything) baked beans are best eaten with fried dough dripping with butter.

Ummmmmmmmm!!

I can't tell you how happy it made me coloring that pig. I was in "hog heaven."

No one enjoys their food like a pig. Unless of course its my overweight orange tom cat. (The Incredible Bulk)

But look at him! Isn't it great?

Hi There!

As you can see I've been busy with this recipe book I've been working on. Just love these sweet micey images, so perfect for a recipe page or two. (Actually four but who's counting)

I'm using a paper pack called "Kitchy Kitchen" by Melissa Francis.

As always I am using my prismacolors and lyras to color with.

The binder is by 7 Gypsy (available at The Kraft Outlet) but I did change the rings to larger ones to accommodate more pages.

The little mice are lili of the valley stamps but the large mouse below with a cupcake is by Mo Manning.

You can click on the recipes to make them larger if you can't see them so well.

That bowl is so cute! It goes perfect with my vintage 1970's hand mixer. LOL

I would have saved these spreads for a DT project but January is going to be so busy that I was afraid these pages might get set aside and forgotten.

Hi Again!

So today we have a new challenge at MO's Digital Pencil and that challenge is, well, hardly no challenge at all, its:

Anything Goes! (with a Mo image)

So we're expecting about 1,000 entries this week. lol

I am using Tom and Tilly, a recent new release which I colored with my usual Lyras and Prismas on Kraft.

I'm not lovin his brown jacket but I have to just step away. Not every card can have yellow.

Actually, you might see just a tad of yellow in Tilly's coif. lol

For paper I am using My Minds Eye (HoneyCake) and the tags are from Whimsy Stamps.

The twine is from Sew Sweet and the dies are Spellbinders. The hearts I have had for simply ages and can't remember where I got them.

Sunflowers

Just when you'd thought you'd seen the last of me (at least til Thursday) I'm baaaaack!

And I'm afraid you'll be seeing a lot more of me this month. I have the privilege of guest designing for ADFD and as such I will be showing you two projects every Wednesday for the whole month of January. How fun is that! Well, at least for me it is, you all have to see more of my projects cluttering up your blogger dashboard. lol

OK, so I decided to name this post "Sunflowers" because well, my two cards feature sunflowers but are presented quite differently.

Firstly, Ive got "Light Of My Life", a stamp that Tammy created based on a real photograph.

Isn't it superb?

I am using paper by Cosmo Cricket and bakers twine by the Kraft Outlet.

Here's a close up of the digi:

And below we have "Sunflower Girl" based on a photo I sent Tammy of myself. ROFL.

OK, maybe not.

Here I am using papers by DCWV, a ribbon by Sew Sweet and decorative corner by Wild Orchid Crafts.

The coloring for both cards was done with Lyras and Primacolor pencils on Kraft.

Now I was in a bit of a quandry here with regards to what the fine lady was leaning on. I thought at first it was a silken draped table. My friend Stacey suggested a stump. For the heck of it I made it into a stump since she's such an outdoorsy type of person with all kinds of flowers wrapped around her and stuff.

She's better be careful ;I think crows like sunflower seeds. Has she never watched "The Birds"? lol

Fave Mo project of 2011

Embellishment Storage

So I was reading my blogging buddy Jessie's post this morning about "How do you organize your favorite embellishments" and decided to join in the chat.

As for what my favorite embellishment is, well, its a no-brainer really.

I loooove buttons!

There is nothing more relaxing than sitting down to a bag of colored buttons and separating them according to size and color.

And so you have.....

Citrus!

(don't you love those teeny tiny buttons in the tiny cases?)

Sea colors!

And bleachhy colors that we all hate but sometimes need..lol

Yes, purple is in that category. Sorry, Stacey. :D

I also have one of these "button containers" for flowers but I didn't take a picture as it is so pathetic its almost laughable. I guess you could say I don't use many flowers.

And then eyelets and brads I stick in these little "tic-tac" containers below

Of course it would be optimistic to think I can store everything in these which is why we have:

the junk drawer

this houses all my immediate grab it things. Adhesives, glue dots, paper piercer, decorative corners, select brads (that I have no tic tac containers for, etc)

Its a well used drawer."I know where everything is". Yeah, right!

And then I have Design Team supplies which I keep in gallon size ziploc bags according to company so I can quickly grab a bag when I'm making a specific card for a DT company. Sounds organized doesn't it?

Can you see them? No? Look closer..pretend you're playing "where's Waldo"...

Can you see them now? Almost?

Ahhhh! There they are!!

Where've ya been all my life!

A Vintage Find

No, I know what you're thinking.

Let me just say right now that I have NOT discovered a way to use a mixer in my cardmaking! But you just gotta check this out. I'm so tickled!

Now,I know I'm a little on the retro side (and btw,can we just leave the 1987 Isuzu with 280,000 miles and the burnt orange formica countertops out of it) but listen, this is what happened:

My daughter and I were in the middle of making a lemon merengue pie on Tuesday and guess what decided to burn out halfway through meringue making?? Yup, our six month old sunbeam. Now I have a pet peeve with mixers, I seriously go through them like they're toothbrushes.Every six months they start making that funny smell and click, they stop. I'm sick to death of it.

Well after having to finish the meringue with a WISK (you heard that right) my biceps looked like the "we can do it" lady.

Yup. That's me right there :)

Looks painful, doesn't it?

Anyway!

My mind went back to our old 1950's Sunbeam that I bought at a yard sale for $1.50 some years ago. It worked like a dream and the only reason I got rid of it was because a beater broke and I had no way of buying a new beater. (We didn't have internet then ~ if I only knew!)

I decided I would rather spend $20 or $30 bucks on a mixer that has already lasted 40-50 years than spend the same on a modern mixer designed to self combust after 1 year. (if youre lucky). So while the lemon merenge was in the oven I went on ebay. What a treasure trove of vintage mixers! I could so easily get into this. They even had a turquose bullet from the 60's. Chrome and everything.

In the end I ordered two. A 1970's avacado green mixer (to go with the burnt orange countertops) and this white Oster below.

Both of them were barely (if ever) used. Still in its box with warranty card and recipes.

Is that cool or is that cool??

Check out how tiny those beaters are. The recipe book says I can mash enough potatoes for 12 people with them. Whaaaat? Mash potatoes with a mixer?? Enough for 12 people with this??

Well! I'm all set then!.

One thing though....With "Happy Jane" cupcakes and prune muffins galore I may never make it to my craft table.

If you don't hear from me by Thursday have Stacey drive by and bang on the bathroom wall. :D

I bet you all thought I died or something, its been a whole four days since I posted. Whaaat?

I've been trying to get caught up on upcoming DT and GD projects with limited success. :)

The Fabric Of Our Lives

Hi all!

Today's challenge at Mo's Digital Pencil is : Fabric

Yikes! And you know what? I thought up the challenge and its still Yikes!

What was I thinking? LOL

Actually it ended up being a lot of fun.

As you know, I started making this recipe book and the fabric reminded me of cafe curtains so it worked out.

I stuck it down with scortape. Awesome stuff!

The button is a brad that I covered. You know, they make these gadgety doohickys to cover butons/brads but I remember just using my fingers to tuck and secure the covered buttons when I was learning to sew as a teenager so that's what I did here. Nice to know you don't have to run out and buy every new tool they come out with. In saying that, it would be handy My address is as follows... :)

In The Kitchen

So I finally bit the bullet.

I've been wanting to make a recipe book for the looooongest time but kept chickening out. As you know I like to color rather large images so I was puzzled how I was going to stick a "Dorcas" image on the usual index card/recipe card. Until.........I found this chipboard book at the Kraft Outlet. Problem solved. Each page is 5x7 inches or there about so presto! I did have to go down a bit in size for my images but they're still pretty workable.

By the way, now that I've started this project you're all going to have to bear with me as I post page after page for the next several months. I have the perfect occasion, a friend is getting married in the Spring. So I have the occasion plus the deadline. What more could I need?

I know! The perfect images! And soooooo without further ado, enter perfect image number one, page one!

Since I didn't want to cramp my images too much I had to print my recipes in really small print. lol

Hey! This book is only to look at, not use!!

But just cos you asked I will blow up the recipe so you can see that it is real. :)

It is helpful that I write my recipes in criptic speech otherwise they wouldn't fit!

Did Someone Say Purple?

Hi Everyone!

I hope you're week is going well. All well here.:)

Today's card I made for a friend (Stacey, you know who you are. lol) who happens to have redecorated recently and while endeavoring to "step away" from the familiar purple comfort zone, found herself painting yet another purple room (under a different name).

So, being the sweet friend I am (and a confirmed purple hater) I made her a purple card to show that I don't let things like color stand in the way of friendship. lol

In saying that, this purple isn't too bad .....I find it didn't alter my mood too drastically while crafting. Stacey can tell you what purple normally does to me.....

Anyway!

Today I have a "for fun" card. No occasion, no DT project, just pure creative play. :-D

I saw the color challenge this past week at A Day For Daisies and was initially going to skip it, the colors seemed a bit overwelming, being so many of them, but then when I stopped and thought about it, they're colors I use a lot of anyway so what was I thinking?

I took the theme "tongue in cheek". It doesn't seem to matter how "great" the outdoors are, cats always want to get back in. Especially if they've been kicked out, which, judging by the ripped wallpaper, has been the case here.

I love this paper pack, the paper looks just like wallpaper to me . I was like a little kid playing with a dollhouse.

Well isn't this is a strange card! lol.

Not sure what happened but that white space is glaring at me like halogen headlights. Eek! Turn em off!

See, this is what comes of working on a card in the last half hour before bedtime. You think all is well and go to bed. The next day you wake up and glance over at the table, stop short and what the.....what was I thinking? lol

Oh well, its not that bad really just different.

It's an anniversary card for a friend so I hope she likes different. If she doesn't it will give her a chance to practice polite.:-D

Expecting A Package?

Hi Everyone!

So this is a little different for me. I've never used one of these pillow boxes before but its kinda cool.

A friend of mine had a little "surprise" and I wanted to cheer her up. I thought this Kraftin Kimmie stamp was funny and sweet at the same time.

Oh! And by the way...just a little fyi, I know there's several of you out there practicing your awesome coloring on kraft skills and I don't want you to get frustrated in the process. I want you to know that there's all kinds of kraft cardstock on the market. If you try one brand/type and have little success, don't automatically assume its your coloring skills. Its most likely the paper. Seriously. I mean that.

This pillow box looks right and feels right and is almost perfect but is a bit too smooth to get many layers of pencil lead down. Now, If I had started practicing my coloring skills with this I would be frustrated. I guess the thing to realize is that people use kraft for many ,many purposes and so there's different kinds of kraft used for different things. You need to scout around and find one that's right for you and your project.

For instance, this pillow box came from an online store called the "Kraft Outlet". They do all kinds of Kraft. Boxes, tags, reems etc .If you buy their brown Kraft cardstock its actually kraft colored cardstock. Perfect for card bases but not for coloring. If you want kraft for coloring you would need to buy their "lunchbag kraft". Just a tip.

Someday I think I'll do a side by side comparison of all the kraft on the market and which ones are best for coloring. That could be fun. In the meantime its just trial and error.

In The Nursery

Hi Guys!

Today I have a card I made just for fun. When I was making the fuzzies for my flocking card a few posts back (Foxy Lady) I made a little too much white so I decided to use the white fluff on this little girl's muff. The rest of the image had already been colored in so it worked out quite perfectly. :-)

As you can see, I also challenged myself to a card with no sewing and no matting. I almost succeeded but couldn't resist a little border around the image.
